GeekTool is a Mac application that lets you customize your desktop and shows system logs, command line commands and output, or images with beautiful flexibility. Some people tried to solve the problem on the application layer, like Github's Boxen,but it solves a different problem, from my point of view. This will not only protect against wipes of your download folder, but it will allow GeekTool to automatically update when new versions are released. Once you have downloaded and run the program, move it into your Applications folder. While we can vouch for that download, we cannot guarantee any others will be safe.
